¡Hola! Soy Profe DeVries.

After years of reading other teacher blogs, going to conferences, and thinking, “I should really do something like that (like write a blog or present)” I finally have. I am a non-profit founder turned comprehensible input Spanish teacher. To say I have a passion for teaching is… actually pretty accurate.

I have a Masters in Teaching and a B.A. in History and Spanish, and never would have thought I’d be teaching the latter, especially in a high school setting. I hated high school! Yet, somehow, I ended up falling in love with teaching and getting to spend time with pretty cool teenagers every school day. I have been teaching Spanish with the comprehensible input for about 7 years (as of 2025). My favorite strategies hover around clip chat/movietalk, write and discuss and mysterious person.

I ended up buying a house in the same town where I grew up, after spending most of my 20s and some of my 30s 4,000 miles away in Peru. Go figure. I married the best Spanish teacher I know, my husband, who in fact is not a Spanish teacher at all, but a skilled architect. He does teach me a lot though. I have a son, who my students take a liking to (I think mostly because his name is the same as a fried tortilla chip…some of you will figure it out), who is curious, strong willed and very into building anything and everything.
